Siemens expands its portfolio

January 2010 Industrial Computer Hardware

Siemens Industry Automation Division has expanded its existing product portfolio of panel PCs and industrial LCD monitors by new devices with key operation. For the Panel PCs Simatic HMI IPC477C and HMI IPC577C there are now 30 and 38 cm devices with keys in addition to the 30, 38 and 48 cm devices with touch screen. For the Simatic industrial LCD monitors, the company is expanding its existing line of pure display units and devices with touch functionality by two compact 30 and 38 cm monitors with key operation.

The function and system keys on the front of the new devices with key operation are programmable so that users can access frequently recurring input sequences or functions in less time. An integrated LED confirms key operation for users; an integrated mouse and the tactile feedback for key input make operation even more convenient. All devices come equipped with a robust front of IP65 rating and offer bright displays.

The design of the panel PC Simatic HMI IPC477C in embedded technology without rotating parts was designed for maintenance-free, 24-hour operation. The devices are very compact and offer high performance for use directly at the machine. They are also available with installed automation software: for operation and monitoring, for control jobs – even fail-safe – or process visualisation as WinCC standalone/client.

Simatic HMI IPC577C is the entry model to the class of panel PCs. Both models are available without hard drive for industrial applications that require a high degree of ruggedness: with 32 Gigabyte Solid State Drive (SSD) or Compact Flash card. Users can configure the devices to match individual needs: they can, for example, be equipped with powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

The Simatic industrial LCD monitors were designed for industrial use and can be used as an option for any Simatic industrial PC. They can operate at a distance of up to 30 metres, for example, serving as a second display unit for a panel PC. They offer a high-resolution display with almost no reflection as well as a large horizontal and vertical reading angle of 170°.
