Siemens Automation & Drives (South Africa) opened its 2007 user conference this morning (22 October 2007) with a record 560 delegates attending (including Siemens employees). Judging by the packed auditorium, most registered users did arrive for the event. Attendee numbers are up 15% from the 2006 event.
“We are delighted with the response,” said A&D Manager, Steve Venter. “We have more than 700 people expected at tomorrow night’s Cyber Junkyard Awards Banquet.”
The Cyber Junkyard is a project started by Siemens in 2003. It is a hands-on competition for students from the electrical, mechanical or mechatronics engineering faculties of tertiary institutions. The purpose behind the competition is to acquaint students with a wide range of automation and drives products in order to prepare them for similar types of projects expected of innovative new thinkers in the industry.
