PLC: standardise programming across platform using IEC61131-3: make multiplatform PLC project manageable
October 2004
News
1-2 November 2004, Park Hyatt, Johannesburg
In today's modern industrial plant, control of processes and machinery is typically carried out using PLCs. With all of the different PLC platforms available, maintaining competence in all of these can be a frightening and potentially costly exercise. It has therefore become essential and vital for personnel to become aware of the advantages of using a common PLC programming format. This course focuses on exactly how these languages are used and how they can 'mix and match' for the most appropriate solution to control problems.
This course is designed to provide engineers and technicians with the understanding of how to programme using the universally accepted IEC
61131-3 languages used commonly across all PLC platforms. Very practically based, with lot of 'hands-on' experience, this course offers the opportunity of gaining competence in this essential area.
Attending delegates will walk away with the power to:
* Recognise the impact of being able to programme all PLCs in the same way.
* Develop an understanding of the five IEC 61131-3 languages.
* Learn how to decide on the most suitable language to use for particular applications.
* Understand the differences in use of the commonly used Fieldbus types.
* Evaluate the requirements for PLC-to-SCADA communications.
The course is ideal for professionals involved in designing, selecting, sizing, specifying, installing, testing, operating and maintaining process instrumentation and control.
