The international process control arena is experiencing a dramatic evolution in maintenance philosophy with smarter instrumentation – shifting away from reactive and preventative schedules toward predictive strategies.
Process control technology evolves rapidly. The control of processes in most industries requires accurate knowledge of process conditions, and this in turn means accurate measurement of those conditions. Without measurement, there can be no control and no information as to the state of the process.
Next Generation Instrumentation, Process Control and Automation Systems is taking place 26 – 28 July 2004 at the Park Hyatt, Johannesburg. This conference will thoroughly examine instrumentation and process control, including types of controls and characteristics; instruments and calibration devices; and troubleshooting process controls, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and final elements. As a result, participants will be able to evaluate which of the techniques will help them increase their plant's productivity. The conference is endorsed by the SAIMC.
A greater understanding of the measuring equipment and the instruments can improve the performance of the operator and this in turn will improve plant performance. Better knowledge of how equipment is selected and how it is constructed and how it works also helps an operator to identify the cause of problems and prevent their recurrence. Hence, the economic benefits of properly trained and informed operators can be readily quantified.
This conference will keep in mind the unique requirements and challenges of the African measurement and control market, and will address issues such as:
* latest technological advances in today's instrumentation and automation systems
* the role performed by instrument engineers and technicians
* methods and devices used in temperature, pressure, level, flow measurement
* what causes errors in instruments, plus how to minimise and troubleshoot them
* the operation and components of a feedback control loop
* a comparison between different control system architectures including single loop controllers, DCS, and PLCs
The conference is intended for professionals in the following sectors: automotive; chemical and pharmaceutical; effluent and waste management; food and drink; iron, steel and nonferrous metal production; mining and minerals extraction; municipal and government bodies; paper and pulp processing; petroleum and petrochemical; power stations and power supply; water, oil and gas supply; and many others.
The conference features presentations by the following organisations: SA Institute of Measurement and Control (SAIMC); Sasol Technology (SASTECH); BMW; Minlog; Anglogold; Mintek; National Instruments; SA Explosion Prevention; University of the Witwatersrand; University of Kwazulu-Natal; Tongaat Hulett Sugar, TMD; Eskom; City Power Johannesburg; University of Cape Town; Crusader Systems; Penmac and WM Consulting.
