Time saving, flexible data handling on-site

May 2003 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

For those having a problem having to remove data loggers from site to download information, UniTemp is offering testo’s new range of data loggers. These devices make it easy to log, save, print and analyse data on-site – quickly and efficiently.

The testo 175 series of compact data loggers measures temperature, humidity, voltage and current. They have a memory capacity for up to 16 000 readings and a measuring rate of 10 s to 24 h. The new testo 177 series of professional data loggers is designed for long-term and multichannel temperature and humidity measurement. These units have a higher memory capability, with space for of up to 48 000 readings and a measuring rate of 2 s to 24 h.

Secure and reliable

The new range has added features such as a realtime clock and a robust ABS casing with non-skid/non-rigid surface. This casing guarantees protection from humidity and mechanical strain. Some of the loggers have a protection class of IP68 and, very importantly, the loggers are completely tamper-proof and have an additional padlock fitting as optional extra. Vital data will not be lost if the battery is spent or being changed. The battery needs changing at some time (up to a period of several years) - this period is determined by calculating the battery life of the logger using the easy to use ComSoft 3 software.

Windows-compatible software

The testo range is accompanied by the Windows-compatible ComSoft 3 software. This has all the functions needed to save the logger data quickly and reliably. The logger can be programmed to start via key, according to date and time, or via PC. The logging can be stopped - once a certain number of measurements have been reached, according to date or time, to continue logging until the memory is full - manually via PC or via the testo 575 printer or testo 580 data collector. The wrap-around memory program enables continual measurement, ie, the oldest value is over-written. The software also has an e-mail function allowing the user to pass on saved data to locally installed e-mail addresses.

The testo 580 data collector is a special on-site data collector that saves time and makes the collecting of logged data from many loggers very simple. This instrument allows stored data to be transferred from the logger on-site without interrupting measurement. Up until recently, loggers needed to be carried to and from a PC, or a notebook to download the collected data on-site. Now all values can be downloaded on-site onto the data collector and later analysed, using the testo ComSoft 3 software. This data collector can also stop and reprogram several loggers on-site. The complete memory of the testo 177/175 data loggers is transferred in seconds - approx 400 values p/s are transmitted via the infrared interface.

The testo 575 is a fast printer and logger control in one. It can print up to six lines per second to paper in table or graph form and also has the feature enabling the user to stop and reprogram loggers on-site without a PC or notebook. The stored data is transferred on-site by infrared without interrupting measurement and enables fast and convenient documentation on-site without the need for a PC.

These efficient and reliable control instruments are now available from UniTemp, the exclusive distributor of testo products in South Africa.
