The new Bosch B-IO instalation technology is characterised by its outstanding versatility in automation-engineering applications. Both the compact version for precisely defined tasks and the modular version for flexible,made-to-measure expansion, are open for some of the worlds most important fieldbus systems ,as well as being available with a wide variety of optional terminal techniques.
Rugged technology and minimum size
The B~IO (bus input/output) is the ideal combination of rugged engineering in an extremely small package. This permits rapid and cost-effective installation of this new technology even in the most cramped conditions. Nevertheless, user comfort as characterised by clear-text labelling and status-LED for every I/O point is retained in all respects.
Demand-optimised system variety
With a number of decisive advantages, the B~IO extends the tried-and-proven range of local and decentralised I/O subassemblies. The user now has a system variety at his disposal which he can adapt precisely to the concrete I/O requirements. The B~IO is an integral subassembly in the Bosch range of automation technology products. By means of a fieldbus, it interconnects the controller, peripheral equipment and operator unit, regardless of which manufacturer(s) they come from. Profibus-DP, InterBus-S, CANopen and DeviceNet are available.
Compact version
With its precisely defined functional scope, the B~IO compact version is the ideal solution for all automation tasks. It is highly cost-effective and provides for all common combinations of digital inputs and outputs. Furthermore, this version integrates the fieldbus circuitry and the I/O technology in two different housing widths.
Modular version
The B~IO modular version is the right choice for individual and complex automation tasks. In contrast to the compact B~IO version, the fieldbus circuits and the I/O technology are located in separate housings. These can easily be connected end-to-end. The changeover to a different fieldbus system is as simple as the exchange of individual modules. As many as 16 different modules from the extensive range of digital inputs and outputs can be connected to a single fieldbus node. Its highly flexible extension features make it an easy matter to quickly adapt the modular version to the actual I/O requirements at any time.
Both the compact and the modular versions of the B~IO feature front-panel plug-in connections and thanks to this installation is characterised by clarity and straightforwardness. Clarity is further increased by the clear-text labelling of the individual I/O points. A comfortable PC tool assists in lettering the labels which are available as accessories.
As a rule, the interfacing of the peripheral equipment is via 2-line connections. Three and 4-pole connection is also available as an option using a simple plug-in terminal block. The innovative Bosch mounting system has no moving parts and ensures rapid and reliable mounting of the B~IO modules on a standard top-hat rail.
Apart from those for the field buses, the B~IO provides a further extensive range of options. The possibility of selecting screw, spring-force or top-screw termination sockets for the wiring of the power supply and of sensors/actuators, means that a highly flexible termination system can be implemented. The user-friendly B~IO termination system makes module change and extensions to the installation an extremely simple matter: unplug, old module out, new module in, re-plug, finished.
