Spescom MeasureGraph is now offering its new Fluke 6100A electrical power standard, said to be the first truly universal power standard. It represents an improvement to current calibration methods that lack appropriate accuracy or rely solely on pure sinusoidal signals - which do not reflect the properties of electrical power in the marketplace.
The instrument came about in answer to the deregulation within the electrical power industry, which was leading to a sharp increase in the buying and selling of power and in the number of suppliers feeding into the world's transmission and distribution systems. With the growth in suppliers came undesirable phenomena such as harmonic distortion; noise and transients; and sags and swells. This in turn has increased the requirements for power measurement that not only determine the amount of phenomena, but also confirm that conventional power measurements are accurate and reliable.
These new measurement needs greatly impact manufacturers of power quality measurement equipment and certification bodies. These are the providers of primary measurement support, and/or traceability to municipalities and large power users.
The Fluke 6100A is a multiphase, accurate and reliable source of phantom electrical power signals and power disturbances. It represents the first integrated system on the market that provides users with confidence in guaranteeing the accuracy of the power measurement tools they design, manufacture, verify and calibrate or use to make measurements.
Consisting of a master unit, which provides the first phase, and auxiliary units that provide up to three additional phases controlled through the master unit, the Fluke 6100A mimics harmonic distortions, user-definable sags, swells and flicker. It is also configurable to the differing power voltages and frequencies that have been adopted globally, enabling the user to select relevant values for the measurements being made. The Windows user interface provides familiar commands and settings, reducing the training required for user fluency.
Scalable and simple to operate, the Fluke 6100A is a suitable standard for power meters, power factor meters, power quality analysers, power recorders and power meters with quality measurement capabilities:
* Provides ability to check, verify or calibrate power and power quality measurements with one instrument.
* Simultaneous generation of different phenomena.
* Configurable from one to four phases.
