Technology evening
The branch was fortunate to have Rob Burns and Frederik Langenhoven from Pepperl+Fuchs provide an overview of Industry 4.0, its influence on existing plant structures and the advanced physical layer. Topics discussed included:
• An introduction into Industry 4.0.
• Process control architectures.
• NAMUR Open Architecture (NOA).
• Open Process Automation (OPA).
• How to make existing plants Industry 4.0 capable
• The need for speed advanced physical layer (APL).
The branch thanks Rob and Frederik for this informative presentation which was well received by members.
Other
The SAIMC was fortunate to receive a significant amount of floor space at the recent Manufacturing Indaba, for the purposes of promoting the organisation. Some of the space was shared with national patron members and the SAIMC spoke at select events and participated in the panel discussions. More will be communicated at national level as SAIMC also played a role at the IIoT conference. Petrus Klopper recently attended the AREI annual breakfast, as the SAIMC is exploring an MOU to identify synergy between the electronics and automation professions.
As always, branch meetings are a forum for like-minded people to unite in the desire to be the best in the world of automation, instrumentation, measurement and control. All visitors welcome. Contact a committee member for more information.
