Avoid fatalities with the safe Faster Multi Faster system

Technews Industry Guide: Maintenance, Reliability & Asset Optimisation 2017 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Site engineers need to be extremely careful when staff are connecting attachments to hydraulically powered vehicles. The slightest error or negligent action could be fatal and extremely costly.

The Faster Multi Faster system and quick-release couplings allow for fast, easy and safe attachment and removal of hydraulic work tools and equipment – in very quick time. There is no substitute for the use of a quick release coupling when connecting or disconnecting between hydraulic lines.

They are especially useful tools in the construction, mining and related sectors where attachments are regularly switched to carry out different tasks. They are found to facilitate quick and safe connection, even with pressurised hydraulic connections. The equipment and vehicles operate in dusty environments with dirt, and other particles contaminating the hydraulic system and affecting operating efficiency.

Changing attachments is made easy

With the trend towards greater modularity and flexibility, the capability to connect to and detach several differing attachments from a single machine is a prerequisite. Faster has designed its range according to international standards that meet strict inter-changeability specifications and performance standards.

The Multi Faster and all Faster quick-release couplings are designed and produced in conformity with the ISO standards and regulations. The Multi Faster comes with a complete range of high-performing flat face quick-release couplings to comply with the standard. It was important that some of these products could be connected between pressurised hydraulic lines and are interchangeable worldwide.

The flat face couplings are suitable for such applications due to the specific shape, their easy to clean faces, strong connection with little or no spillage and coating that is extremely corrosion resistant.

The solid construction of the Multi Faster helps withstand severe working environments and conditions.

There are many variations in the Multi Faster range to cater for light applications such as skid steer and multi-utilities to heavy duty applications. The range encompasses systems equipped with six ½” flat face quick-release couplings or systems for very high pressure applications, the Slide series, which is a new concept for multi-utility vehicles. It has a compact design with four lines and multi installation options.

Such safe features prevent accidental disconnections and/or partial unscrewing of the main sleeve as a result of vibration. A further benefit is the capability to connect the hydraulic lines within the system, even under residual pressure. There is also a trend towards hydraulic multi-connection systems that are completely integrated with the standard mechanical locking system of the attachment on the vehicle.

Diagnosis and maintenance

Faster has also unveiled hydraulic connection solutions for diagnosis and maintenance applications, which are also interchangeable worldwide (according to ISO 15171-1). The company’s diagnostic quick-release couplings (DF series) have been specifically designed to ensure the maintenance of hydraulic systems and checking of pressure within the circuit is easier, quicker and more effective.

Safety

Faster’s complete range of check valves (VU series), meanwhile, offers a variety of safety benefits. These can be used when it is necessary to keep a certain maximum pressure value within the hydraulic system (operating as a check valve) or to prevent potentially dangerous situations in the case of a hose rupture (operating as a non-return or parachute valve).
