Electrical components and systems for explosion protection

February 2017 IS & Ex

The range of applications in potentially explosive areas is virtually limitless. Even for standard applications, completely different sets of requirements exist depending on type of protection, sector, and country-specific guidelines. With its comprehensive portfolio of electrical components and systems for explosion protection, Pepperl+Fuchs can offer the right solution for all scenarios.

At Pepperl+Fuchs, the range of electrical components and systems for explosion protection is perfectly tailored to the diverse requirements within process automation. The company offers a comprehensive and flexible portfolio, including everything from distributors, command devices, and annunciators to complex control systems. Each of the product lines is built using high-quality housings and components, with increased safety, intrinsic safety, and flameproof enclosure types of protection. As these products are available with a range of functions and in different sizes and materials, they can easily be adapted to the specific requirements of any application.

The custom ‘Ex de’ solutions manufactured by Pepperl+Fuchs are less well-known, but provide an excellent example of how solutions can be tailored to individual applications. These solutions comprise a combination of a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) coupled with an increased safety (Ex e) enclos-ure. Terminals and control elements are installed in this housing in line with customer specifications. The two elements are securely connected via a special cable duct. A flange between the housings prevents dirt deposits and moisture penetration.

Thanks to these products, engineers from Pepperl+Fuchs can always offer an optimum solution, even for specific requirements in complex and demanding applications.
