Reliably reduce ­corrosion and deposition in power plants

Long-term efficient power generation requires careful surveillance to guard against corrosive and depositing conditions, and to ensure conformance with industry guidelines. Mettler Toledo Thornton offers a range of high-performance sensors and analysers for measurement parameters, such as specific cation, and degassed cation conductivity, calculated pH, pH/ORP by electrode, dissolved oxygen (DO), sodium, silica and total organic carbon (TOC).

Low-volume sensor housings ensure a timely response by preventing accumulation of corrosion around sensing elements. UniCond conductivity sensors produce highest accuracy measurements due to system calibration of built-in measuring circuits, cell constant and temperature sensors. The wide range of transmitters provide pH, DO, conductivity, resistivity, TOC, DO, turbidity, CO2 (carbon dioxide) and flow measurements for pure water and process applications.

pHure (combined pH/ORP) sensors with Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM) and unique reference system maintain continuity under low conductivity conditions and give reliable direct pH measurement with minimal maintenance – a critical backup if conditions go outside the limits for accurate pH calculation. Their single probe design and low-volume flow housing prevents the accumulation of solids.

Mettler Toledo Thornton offers both optical and electrochemical dissolved oxygen sensor technologies to achieve control at ppb (parts per billion) levels appropriate for the cycle chemistry treatment used. Sodium and silica analysers provide highly sensitive monitoring of de­ionisation and steam quality to prevent corrosion and deposition on turbines.
