The new vortex flowmeters from ifm electronic are space-saving devices that quickly inform the user about the current volumetric flow and medium temperature. The multi-colour display can be rotated electronically and the red/green colour selection for process values can be set. Installation can be independent of orientation due to the rotatable G and R process connections which are optionally available.
Behind a bluff body integrated in the measuring pipe, the flowing medium generates swirling vortices depending on its velocity. These vortices are detected by a piezo-ceramic sensor. If the cross-section is known, the number of vortices allows determination of the flow rate. This flow rate measurement principle, known as the vortex principle, is virtually independent of pressure and temperature fluctuations of the medium.
The new SV type devices are best suited for use in cooling water circuits. They can be used for water with and without conductivity. Outputs for flow rate and temperature are switched output, analogue current signal (4-20 mA), as a frequency signal, or via IO-Link. Thanks to the vortex principle with its simple constructive design, the sensors are cost effective and feature intuitive menu-guided programming.
