Flare ignition systems from Smitsvonk

Flaring systems in a refinery or petro-chemical plant ensure the safe and efficient disposal of released gases. A flare is expected to operate 24 hours a day and must be maintenance-free for several years.

Ignition of the waste gases can be done by pilot burners (flame) or for some applications by ignition lances (spark). The ignition system must reliably ignite the waste gas of the flare. If the ignition system fails, unburned hydrocarbons or toxic gases could be released into the atmosphere.

Smitsvonk’s ignition systems are insensitive to process pressure and have a self-cleaning spark plug surface due to its flame shaped spark. Operating with low power consumption, in comparison to traditional ignition sources, the igniters are not affected by moisture, dirt, oil or grease.

The system comprises a power supply, control electronics with variable pulse frequencies, a connection cable and a low tension spark tip.
