Decades of Engineering Excellence

May 2014 News

Published by Chris van Rensburg Publications, Decades of Engineering Excellence is a new coffee-table book issued by The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) to commemorate the country’s engineering profession.

Compiled and edited by professional engineer du Toit Grobler, the book is designed to serve as a reference to anyone interested, or wishing to become involved in, the engineering profession. The 200 page volume starts with an overview of engineering and the main disciplines and sub-disciplines as well as an overview of the categories of engineering practitioners in South Africa.

The section that follows deals with some of the country’s achievements in engineering across the various disciplines. It covers the early days of the mining and electricity industries and goes on to showcase the latest achievements from the local research institutes and societies.

The section on engineering education in South Africa should prove useful to anyone interested in the range of options available from the local universities, universities of technology and colleges for further education and training. There are also profiles and contact details of the local institutions and organisations associated with the profession.

Available through ECSA, this well illustrated book should make a great addition to the corporate coffee table.
