Moxa unveils new WLAN client with serial interface

November 2012 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking

Moxa’s latest offering is the AWK-1127 Series, an IEEE 802.11 a/b/g WLAN client with a serial interface packaged as a rugged wireless client for industrial networking applications. Virtually identical to the AWK-1121, with the exception of a serial port, the unit is optimised for applications requiring a dedicated wireless client with compact design and industrial-strength features. With Turbo Roaming to give millisecond-level handoffs, redundant power inputs, wide-temperature operation (-40 to 75°C) and a serial interface for effortless serial device connectivity, the interface ensures a high level of reliability and availability for wireless communication applications with limited space.

Allowing connection to both Ethernet and serial devices for application versatility, the small, light, rugged industrial design provides a solution for connecting legacy devices to WLAN networks where a dedicated client is required. The WLAN client provides key wireless benefits like mobility, flexibility, wider coverage and is specifically designed for hard-to-wire, tightly spaced applications. Roaming for the AWK-1127 is benchmarked at millisecond-level speeds, providing handovers that effectively eliminate connectivity gaps for latency-sensitive applications like automatic guided vehicles (AGV) in factory automation systems or those found in intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
