As part of Metso’s focus on providing life-cycle services to customers on its range of products, Metso Automation RSA has opened its third valve sales and service facility in Secunda. Due to the sustained demand for maintenance and valve overhaul services in the region, previously handled by the Vereeniging facility, the company has invested in the area in order to meet the demands of customers for shorter turnaround times. The new facility achieves this through a reduction of the risks associated with transportation, and providing the easy access to specialised equipment and services that ensures its customers peace of mind when supplying, or servicing, high-performance products during emergency shutdown or safety related applications.
Markku Simula, president of Metso’s flow control division
The new facility covers an area of 500 square metres and includes a valve service centre and office space. One of the key elements in the release of high performance valves to customers after overhaul is the ability to test the products to the relevant standards for leakage and shell integrity. As a result of this, one of the key investments into the new facility was a pressure testing rig from Germany. It allows accurate testing of leakage rates and shell integrity to be performed locally prior to releasing the serviced valves back into the field.
